Researching Sussex County DE

Welcome!  The Sussex County Genealogical Society is a small society, about 80 members from many states. We are located in Sussex County, Delaware, with members researching locally, domestically and internationally.  Should you wish to join, our application is under "Join Us - Renew" and the individual membership is $25/year or family membership $30/year.  Mail your check with your application to the address on the application form.

Our society does not own a facility or a genealogy library nor do we have genealogists for hire.  We hope the following links will provide some helpful information and direction to aid you in your quest and to learn more about Sussex County, Delaware and the peninsula of Delmarva.

The Delaware Library (https://lib.de.us) and the website of the Delaware Archives in Dover (https://archives.delaware.gov) provide a rich variety of resources and are a good place to begin research for Delaware materials.  Another excellent facility for genealogical research is the NABB Center at the University of Delaware in Salisbury, Maryland.  (https://salisbury.edu/libraries/nabb).

Our society currently meets at the Lewes Public Library and via Zoom for a variety of educational activities, seeking to assist and encourage members and visitors in their search.  Every gathering includes wonderful stories of searches assisted by hard work and serendipity, as well as fascinating tales from individuals.  We share resources and experiences in looking for our ancestors, as well as help in managing and sharing our wealth of information.

The State and Local links below offer additional suggestions.  Join us when you can and see our Upcoming Events for dates and times.
